Melissa Deletant is an elementary Art teacher at Lapoint Elementary and Naples Elementary School through a partnership with the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program and Brigham Young University.
Accepting that not all students will grow up to become professional artists, Melissa instead uses Art as a vehicle for teaching critical and creative thinking, visual literacy, and the other necessary 21st Century skills her students will need, no matter their future. Melissa is constantly striving to improve her teaching skills for the benefit of the students under her instruction. Witnessing a real urgency for self-expression and the opportunity for students to express learning in alternative ways, Melissa has strived to address those needs by allow student choice, connecting learning to student individual interests, and demonstrating to stakeholders the importance of Art learning. Melissa embraces the philosophy of the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program: Art plays a vital role in the development of the whole child, it is a necessary component in education. She is passionate about sharing Beverley’s message with families, schools, communities, and at both the state and national level. It is a message that must be shared, in order to ensure a successful future for all students. EDUCATION
